God Is The Real Treasure
The world is a seductive place. We are bombarded with marketing messages at almost every turn. These messages tell us we “deserve a break today”, we should have the latest technology or convenience, that we should indulge our every desire. This combined with our self-centered nature has us dreaming of more and better things; a better home, car, job, income and so on. As Christians we struggle against our self-centeredness but often we look to God to provide us ever increasing blessings. We still seem to look at blessings as physical things to be gained in this life.
The Levites were God’s priests. He called them out of the general population of Israelites to serve Him. The Promised Land was to be divided up between the various tribes with the exception of the Levites. They were to have no land. The people were to bring offerings and contributions to the tabernacle and most of this was to be used to support the Levites.
Numbers 18:19-20 ESV
“All the holy contributions that the people of Israel present to the Lord I give to you, and to your sons and daughters with you, as a perpetual due. It is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord for you and for your offspring with you.” And the Lord said to Aaron, “You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any portion among them. I am your portion and your inheritance among the people of Israel.”
The Levites had their inheritance in God and they had the better part. Brothers, as Christians we are God’s priests. We are to tell the lost about Jesus Christ. We belong to God and are to be about His business. Our blessings are not of this land but in God Himself. Don’t let the miserable baubles of this world cause you to miss the very real and great treasure God has for you.
Have a blessed day!
Your brother and servant in Christ,
Dying to self, living to serve!
