Creator God
Psalms 103-105
Reading Psalm 104 reminds me that God is “Creator God”. He made it all. I find it laughable that people struggle so hard to say that this world, the universe, is an accident. I could just “hee haw” about that if it weren’t so tragic for those that hold that view. Now I don’t have a religious or even conceptual problem with the idea that the world or universe was created over millions of years. I don’t think there is very good evidence for that but it wouldn’t bother me in the least if it were true. God is not subject to time. Time is merely a tool used by God to fulfill His purposes; how He chooses to use it is His business.
I guess I need to explain my comment that there is a lack of evidence to support a millions of years theory of creation. The theory that it took millions of years is based on the need of the Theory of Evolution. Notice I said need not science. Evolution stands on the idea that some fantastic spark or lighting strike caused some primordial ooze to suddenly become a single cell organism. From that one cell, allegedly, evolved modern man. What is required for that to take place is millions upon millions of mutations leading to millions upon millions of species, or missing links, which magically produced man.
Now they have developed something call “carbon dating” to try and date fossils and rocks supposed to have come into being millions of years ago. Here is my problem with a mechanism designed to accurately date an article from millions of years ago. How do you calibrate the machine? What is your bench mark? The only way to know if the machine is accurate is to have something you absolutely, positively know came into existence millions of years ago against which you can check the accuracy of the machine. Without that proven artifact, the machine itself is just guessing. Do you know how they calibrate the machine?
They take an article they assume came into being millions of years ago and that is their base line. Now anything that is dated by the machine will have that assumption as the basis for its dating. If the original article used for calibration was only a thousand years old but we’ve told the machine it is a million years old then the scale for everything that is dated from that point on ward will be off by a similar magnitude.
How do they know how old something is that they find in the dirt? Archeologists will look at the layers of sediment at a particular location, and based on the number of layers they find there declare that the objects are of a certain age. How do geologists determine the age of a particular layer of sediment? They determine this based on the age of the artifacts that are found in that layer. Do you see what is going on here? Both are depending on the other to determine the age of a layer or artifact. That is not science; it is guessing.
There really is no scientific way to determine the age of the earth or the artifacts found there in. Back in the 80’s when Mount St. Helen’s erupted geologists went to the sight and took rock samples for carbon dating. They took these samples because they were “new rock”. The volcanic activity created new rock. Carbon dating these “new rocks” would test the accuracy of Carbon Dating techniques. Guess what? These new rocks tested as being millions of years old! The machine is wrong!
Do you know another problem with this Theory of Evolution that depends on millions of years to work? Years ago a group of mathematicians and alleged scientists from such vaunted disciplines as Geology and Archeology got together to “prove” that man was an accident. They would combine the knowledge of their disciplines to prove once and for all that this God business is nonsense. They made a big mistake including the mathematicians.
Math is a pretty specific discipline. There isn’t a lot of room for fudging the data. You can’t just say “this is so because it is so”. As they worked together to walk through the billions upon billions upon billions of happy accidents that had to occur for mankind to arise merely by chance they discovered an extremely inconvenient truth. It is mathematically impossible for mankind to have come into being accidently. What is a billion to a billionth power any way? The project was quickly shut down. Don’t want word of that discovery getting out!
My friends, that isn’t Science. Science is not supposed to manipulate data to conform to a foregone conclusion. That is politics. Would it bother me if the science worked out to prove that it took millions of years to create man? No, it would not. The timing does not prove or disprove the existence of God. Have you heard of the Big Bang Theory? That is the notion that the universe came into being when a big ball of matter exploded into billions of pieces creating stars and galaxies in its shock wave. Then we have the lightening strike that started that single cell and evolution that led to man. Even if we could prove all of that, were did the big ball come from? Where did the thing from which the big ball came from come from? Do you see that we can never get to the beginning?
As created beings with a finite beginning and end, we cannot conceive of an existence that does not have a starting place. Our wisdom is not sufficient to crack the riddle of eternity; no beginning, no end. The pot really has no frame of reference from which to comprehend the potter. The only way a created being can comprehend a Creator is if that Creator reveals himself to the creature. God has done that in numerous ways for us. He has done it through His intervention in history. He has done it through His Holy Word, and He has done it through His Son, Jesus Christ. He has also done it through His creation itself. One does not need a mathematician to prove God exists.
God’s handy work is available for all to see. The complexity and interdependence of life on this plant, the planet itself, are all brush strokes of the Master. You know Darwin’s hypothesis rested on this idea that life started from a simple structure, a single cell, and that pressures to survive caused mutations that gave rise to more complex, multi-cell creatures. Evolution rests on this idea of going from the simple to the more complex as a mechanism for survival. The problem with the hypothesis is that we have since discovered that there is nothing more complex than a single cell. A single cell is a little factory town. The single cell is more complex than the human body as a mechanical system.
Psalm 104 reminds us that God is the Creator. It reminds us to just look around us to understand the truth.
Psalm 104:14-19
“You cause the grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth food from the earth
and wine to gladden the heart of man,
oil to make his face shine
and bread to strengthen man’s heart.The trees of the Lord are watered abundantly,
the cedars of Lebanon that he planted.
In them the birds build their nests;
the stork has her home in the fir trees.
The high mountains are for the wild goats;
the rocks are a refuge for the rock badgers.He made the moon to mark the seasons;
the sun knows its time for setting.”
J. Vernon had this to say about this Psalm:
McGee, J. V. (1997). Thru the Bible commentary (electronic ed.). Nashville: Thomas Nelson.
“Ancient people learned that the sun and moon regulated seedtime and harvest on the earth. In the ruins of an Indian building in Arizona are two holes which were made in a wall. For a long time no one could figure out why they were there. They finally discovered that when you could look through both of those holes and see the moon it was time to plant corn. God gave us the moon for seasons—He says so. The sun and the moon move according to schedule. Don’t tell me that we are living in a meaningless universe.”
The universe; the world; you are no accident. God is self evident. He doesn’t need us to prove He exists and no one will ever prove He doesn’t. The question isn’t “does God exist”. The question is “Why did He create you?” Really, think about that. Why did He create you? Look around this world. Everything is so wondrously made and interconnected. Life is so intricate and complex; could your life be an accident in the midst of such purpose? No my friend. Even with the billions of people that have walked this earth you are no accident.
God has a purpose for you. Your purpose is to glorify God with all that He has given you. You will find all that God has for you as you fulfill that purpose. Bless the Lord, O my soul!
Have a blessed day brothers!
Your brother and servant in Christ,
Bill
